Ebay Listing of the Day – 4/9/10

Carter's Pink Elephant Blanket

Carter’s Elephant LOVE ME Security Blanket Baby Lovey

Today’s Ebay listing of the day comes from Sarah (her Ebay store is Adorable and Affordable Clothing). What can I say, I love loveys. They are so cute and fun to sell.

I don’t have much to say about this great listing, you really cover it all in your auction….terms are clear and concise….you’ve spelled out shipping for domestic and international buyers and addressed combined shipping rates. If I had one suggestion to make it would probably be to add the word “pink” to your title. I think anyone searching for this lovey would probably use the keywords “pink elephant” to search and it would be a shame to have your great listing not come up.

Once again, a great looking listing. Best of luck with your sales!

How do YOU get it all done?

Multi-tasking mom

Today’s post is about getting stuff done. Do you ever feel like you’re running in a dozen directions at once? House always messy, ebay work never quite caught up, laundry piling high, meals to cook and kids who constantly need you to do/fix/play/read something?

When I found this picture for today’s blog post, I looked at it for a minute and thought……I envy that cartoon mom. Sure she’s multi-tasking, but she looks like she’s got it all pretty much under control. Baby happy? Check. Meal cooking? Check. House cleaning done? Check. I mean, she’s even got clothes on that are not sweats, her hair done and make-up on. She probably even showered today. You go girl! Someday I aspire to be like that cartoon lady.

But in the meantime, how do YOU get it all done?

I’m sitting here in a very messy office filled with Ebay stuff that needs worked on. My son is out in the living room wanting me to come play Star Wars with him. I just heard the washer stop, which means I better go toss clothes in the dryer. I did cook us a nice lunch but now I have a pile of dishes to do. Most days I feel like I have things pretty much a little bit under control, while other days the “to do” list seems to grow by 5 items for every 1 that I check off.

I’d love to hear from you….any tips/tricks/hints or shortcuts that you find helpful in just getting stuff done.

Kids Consignment Sales

kids consignment sales

I know it’s (finally!) spring and everyone is excited for yard sales and garage sales to get started. Those can be great places to get inventory, but I wanted to talk today about kids consignment sales which can be another fantastic place to pick up items to sell. It’s like going to a garage sale with 100 families (or more!) participating and all they have to offer is kids clothing, shoes, toys and baby equipment.

Have you ever been to a consignment sale? They can be lots of fun, but they can also be crowded and so packed with people and stuff that it’s hard to know where to look first. I’ve found several regular (either annual or bi-annual) sales in my area that I really enjoy shopping at. Along the way I’ve learned a few tips that I’m going to share with you.

Of course, the first thing is finding a sale in your area. A great starting place is http://www.kidsconsignmentsales.com. Click on the “seasonal sales” link and you can find a list of area consignment sales by clicking on your state. Canadian sellers, don’t feel left out, this site also has sales listed by Canadian province. Another way to find sales is to check out www.craigslist.org for sales in your area.

You’ve found a sale, marked your calendar…..now what?

• Be an early bird – get the worm. If at all possible, I like to shop on the first day of the sale and get there when it opens.

• Bring your own bag, basket or box. Only one of the sales that I regularly shop at offers shopping carts (and those are in limited supply). A big bag (like a beach bag), a laundry basket or even a box can work well for storing all your goodies while you shop. I’ve practically broken fingers (or at least cut off circulation for a long while) trying to hang tons of hangers on one hand while continuing to rifle through clothing racks with the other hand….not fun.

• Find out payment policies ahead of time. Many sales are cash only, so check that out and make sure you have enough money on hand.

• Consider being a volunteer. I’ve worked at two different sales and the benefits can far outweigh the little bit of time you have to give. Most sales offer a pre-sale (usually the day before the sale is open to the public) that you can attend if you are a consignor or volunteer. Shopping the pre-sale gets you access to the goodies before everyone else! The one sale I’ve shopped and volunteered at 3 different times…..each time I’ve done more than 1/2 of my total shopping during the pre-sale. My favorite time to volunteer is during the set-up time. Doing this allows me to scope out the good deals while I’m hanging clothes on racks or setting toys on shelves, so when the pre-sale starts I can go straight for my “must buy” items.

• Shop again the last day. Most sales run for 2-3 days and traditionally the last day is 1/2 price day. It’s a great time to snag some bargains!

• Know your price points. One downfall to a consignment sale is that there are items from many, many different sellers and everyone is allowed to price their own items. So you might find some real deals and other things may be pretty pricey. Know what you can spend and still make a decent profit and leave behind the overpriced items….maybe they will still be there on 1/2 price day and you can buy them then.

Happy shopping!

Ebay listing of the day! 4/2/10

Transformers boys pajamas

NWT TRANSFORMERS Blue Boys Pajamas Top Pants 4 4T HCTS

Once again it’s been a while since we’ve featured a member’s listing on the blog.

Today’s listing of the day comes from ebay seller and HCTS member pooh4934. She’s got a great photo of her item and it shows up very well in the gallery photo on the search page. I like that the auction template is clean and simple. The auction description and terms are all there with the info. you need to know if you’re going to buy….nice and to the point.

One thing that would be nice to know is the combined shipping rate. The auction states “I combine shipping.” but not the cost….is it $1 or $2 extra for each additional item? Sometime spelling it out can encourage buyers to make multiple purchases on the spur of the moment since they don’t have to contact the seller and wait for an answer about combined shipping before making their purchase.

Overall a great listing, best of luck with it!

If you would like the opportunity to have one of your items featured, be sure to include ‘HCTS’ in your title when you list.  Not only could you be featured on the blog, you are also making your listings searchable by our entire membership!
