Here Comes The Stork Blog

A new year, a new you?

Most people make New Years Resolutions.  Now I’m not like most people (in more ways than one!) but I am a goal oriented person.  Rebecca posted in off-topic last week asking what our goals are for 2010, and I thought her perspective was great and very relatable for me.  Judging by the response, many of you felt the same way as well.  So in light of that, rather than posting a listing of the day, I thought I’d take this first week of the new year to focus on goals for our businesses.

Obviously, we all sell on different scales and with different profit goals in mind.  But regardless of income, we all face similar challenges when it comes to balancing our family and our work life, organizing and maintaining a retail business from personal space, and keeping accurate records amidst the flurry of day-to-day responsibilities.  I’m hoping that I can give you a few organizational ideas and the motivation to implement a system that works for you.  I’m also hoping you have some ideas for me!  Believe me, this is not a one-way street – I need to get in gear too!  There are some areas I have down pat, and others where I’m falling painfully behind, and I’d bet you’re the same way.  Don’t be overwhelmed!  We will work on this together.  One of our new moderators, Xochilt will be talking to you about that soon (yes, a little teaser in there for fun things to come!)

This week I plan to cover inventory organization, record-keeping, creating a shipping center, and maybe a few more ideas as well.  And tune in again tomorrow – I am going to have a little contest this week for blog commenters only, so make sure you’re here and ready to participate.  You’ll be able to help your stork sisters, get a few tips along the way, and maybe even win something yummy!  (hint, hint!)

In the meantime, please drop me an email at heather@herecomesthestork.com or send me a private message (username: BellaBuggy) if you have any ideas or specific concerns you’d like to see addressed on the blog this week.  This series is about helping you become a better and more organized seller, so I’d like the content to be what YOU want to learn about.  If you have a specific topic you’d like to see covered, I’d love to hear from you!

The ultimate eBay selling spreadsheet- new for 2010 + coupon code!

Here Comes the Stork member js1234 has updated her incredible ebay spreadsheet for the new year. Here’s what Jen shared with me yesterday:

“Our 2010 spreadsheet has been released! Same great features as the 2009 version such as automatically pulling your transaction information from eBay’s servers, great consignment/TA feature and lot more features that other eBay spreadsheets don’t offer.

We have improved Easy Auctions Tracker based on customer suggestions. There is a new right-click menu to help you manually add items (especially helpful if you sell on other sites such as BISI, AZ or even CL) and much more. We have a version for the US, Canada, Australia & the UK.

Use Coupon Code 10off through 1/15/2010 for 10% off!”

Easy Auction Tracker

I have personally purchased and used this product for my business. The product and support was incredible! When I had trouble setting the spreadsheet up in my ancient version of Excel, I emailed the owners-Josh and Jen. Within 10 minutes, Josh called me from his cell phone, while he was driving home, and walked me through my errors. Now, that’s SERVICE!!
