Here Comes The Stork Blog

Ok, I’m organized. Now what?

My last blog this week will be about maintaining your level of enthusiasm.  I have a tendency to get excited about a project, pour myself into it, and then lose interest.  For example, I did a fabulous makeover in my design studio, got everything organized and looking beautiful, and now I’m unmotivated to actually SEW anymore!  I think I overdosed and burned myself out, so I’m on hiatus right now.  It’s fine to take a break when it’s your hobby, but when it’s your livelihood you can’t afford to lose interest.

If you don’t already visit the HCTS forums now is a great time to start!  Besides the great sales tips and general info exchange, you’ll find listing challenges, initiated by members of our community, to help keep you on track.  I’d also like to work on a weekly goal post.

Starting Sunday, I’ll post a thread where we can list our goals for the week.  Every time you accomplish something, come back and check it off your list.  Think of it as your virtual to-do list; we all know we’re much more likely to do something when it’s on a list we can cross off and brag to friends all over the world!  Just like working out is easier with a friend, working on our businesses is better with support, too!
And so along those lines, Rebecca has a really exciting, get-your-butt-in-gear, motivational challenge coming up! Clear your calendar and plan to join us for the 2.28.10 challenge!

I really hope this week’s series has been helpful to you. I’ve actually had a lot of fun doing it, and I’ve found it motivating to improve the systems I already have in place. You’ve written in with so many great tips! I look forward to implementing several of the ideas you’ve given me, and I hope we can get together again to see how we’re maintaining our progress.

There should totally be a prize for the best makeover, don’t you think? hmmmm…;)

PS) Don’t forget – the giveaways end tonight.  Leave a comment to enter!

PPS) Look for the Daily Listing Challenges in General Chit-Chat, and starting Sunday, the Weekly Goals post will be in Off-Topic.  This is the perfect spot for you to blend your personal and professional goals.  (One of mine is organizing both types of pictures!)

  1. Ok, biting fingernails here. You mean I actually have to wait over a month for this to come to play?

  3. Oh…getting organized feels good, doesn’t it?…..
A checklist is a great idea!!!

  4. Your blogs has been so helpfull this week. It has been fun reading and I hae already started implementing some things as well.

You are soo right; it is the hardest thing to keep motivated and although I really need the income from this to help out family running; apparently its still not enough to sometimes keep me going.
I love motivating threads on HCTS because it really does help me out to keep archieving my goals.

I’ve promised myself to get my business to the next level in 2010.
Our family is having a really hard time financially right now so I have to try my hardest to keep this going and bring money in.
I’ve already started to make a list what my goals and plans are for this year.

I am going to read all your posts again and see where I can improve my inventory solutions; my shippingtable and more to make my business easier and more workable (is that a word ..lol)
But most of all it is important to also have fun in what I am doing and I know when things are more organized it is more fun to keep up with it.

I am looking forward to see what Rebecca has in store for us but I am for sure going to play along …

Thanks for the last week; it really was an eye-opener.
Looking forward to more of these :-)

  5. Awesome posts all week Heather!

  6. Thanks so much for the great posts this week Heather. My Goals are to get my business better than ever in 2010 and this is a great start! I have picked up some great organizing ideas and have the motivation to implement them as well. I cannot wait for 280 to begin! The checklists will be great!

  7. I have followed your blogs all week….very informative and motivational. Looking forward to the challenge. Thanks for all the time you’ve put into helping everyone suceed :)

  8. This has been an awesome week! Very motivating! Thank you for taking the time to do this. I look forward to this being a successful year with the help and support of HCTS!

  9. Does this mean we won’t be able to have the daily goals threads anymore that list some non-business goals too?

    Thanks for the interesting post!

  10. I hear you on the de-motivation. I often burn myself out with planning and am just tired of the whole thing when it’s time for the actual project. I am just glad to hear I’m not the only one!

  11. Heather, thanks so much for all the info this week! Can hardly wait to see what’s coming with the 280 challenge!

  12. I cleaned & reorganized my laundry room this morning during commercials. I was watching Clean Sweep on TLC (love that show). I guess I need to move on to the desk and Ebay area.

  13. Oh, do I struggle with what task to do next, and then doing that task. Sometimes, I wonder if Im too hard on myself… “should” I be doing more, or “should” I be pleased with how much I do do?

I KNOW I spend too much mental energy trying to figure what is “most worth doing”, without ever really determining an answer (and then just doing “whatever” occurs to me). Its working, I supose. But… I think it could work even better!!

    280, huh? Interesting.

  14. Thanks for all the wonderful info!!

  15. Well, I’ll admit this is my very first time posting a blog comment….first time ever reading a blog! Can’t wait for the 280 challenge!

Thanks for all of the great info….I love the shipping area pics and have some great ideas for my office/shipping area now thanks to you and all of the other members & their comments!

I’m proud to say I spent 3 days between Christmas & New Year’s Eve cleaning & organizing my inventory room, and it looks so much better & everything is easy to find. Now to tackle the office, desk, etc. this week! Thanks again for the inspiration, ideas, and stork support!

  16. So glad you started this blog. I have only read the most recent entry, and taking a moment to comment. I am off to read the rest of your posts. I decided to start “ebaying” a year ago, became a member of HCTS, and have yet to do anything else! Thanks for your guidance!

  17. Thanks for a great week Heather!
I gleaned some good tips to help me reorganize.
My DH is off this week and is redoing his area…so I stayed out of the way and worked in the kitchen instead! Next week I will get to venture back to the office area.

  18. Looking forward to a good challenge to get myself motivated! Can’t wait to hear more details.

  19. Heather thanx for a great week of blogging. I don’t usually follow a blog because of my time constraints but this one was fun.

My main goal this year is to streamline my business so this organizational blog was just the ticket to get me started. Thanx again.

  20. Thanks so much Heather! I’ve really enjoyed reading all the posts. My goal this year is to open a store and get my items listed! I’m great at buying inventory and I do list here and there, but I’m not consistent. I really want to make some $ doing this part time so I’m ready to buckle down and get to work!

  21. I can’t wait to see what the challenge is… my goal is to at least double my business this year and branch out into some other areas.

I love reading all the blog posts and often get really great ideas. That is one of the things I LOVE about HCTS and the reason I could never give it up – so many women / men? share alot of information and I am always getting new ideas and new ways of doing just about everything.

Thanks alot Heather for all these posts – I am getting motivated to really get my business moving!

  22. Thanks for the motivation…the kids rooms have been decluttered. Now I just need to list the items in my basket.
