Here Comes The Stork Blog

Listing of the day 5/12/09

Today’s listing of the day is…

NEW SOFFT Shoes Brown peep toe 11 M pumps NWOB hcts

I really, really like this listing. The gallery picture itself is catalog-worthy. I love how there are so many views of the shoes…it’s very important to show all sides of an item (like shoes) that has the potential of showing wear unevenly.

The keywords are awesome. I do have to wonder, is pumps searched more than heels? I think I am going to have to get a Terapeak subscription in order to answer these questions! One of the only negatives on this listing is that there are no item specifics. I believe if you go in and edit this item, you will be able to add specifics like brand, color, size…which may get you some additional hits.

Great description. Love that you included the height of the heels. Sometimes when I am listing shoes, I will also include a heel to toe measurement and a width at widest point measurement. I’m not sure it’s totally necessary to do that, but I am all about trying to avoid ASQ and returns.

Your shipping and payment terms are very clearly displayed and easy to understand!! I love that you have the HCTS banner on your me page-and I see the Easy Auction Tracker (this month’s blog prize sponsor) banner there, too.

Great job on your listing, dear. Thanks for setting a great example for newer HCTS members with your outstanding listing.

xoxo,

Rebecca

Listing of the day 5/11/09

Today we will visit our first listing of the day! Today’s listing of the day is….

Patriotic 4th July Red White Blue Dress Girls 6X 7 HCTS

The seller is

jacebstreasure

I like so much about this listing. What struck me initially is that the gallery photo was so well done that it looked like a stock photo! Her title is very good, I like the Forth of July keyword…but I might have switched “patriotic” with “American”. Both words are good choices, I’d have to research which one is actually more searched. The description is EXCELLENT. I love how she gave so much information about the design of the dress, and I am thrilled to see measurements in the listing!! That is time consuming when preparing the listing, but such a time saver in ASQ and returns!! The quantity of pictures is wonderful. I’d love to see the pictures a tad darker, but otherwise they are very well taken, cropped, and show all the important details. The shipping and payment terms are very easy to understand-and you made the fact that you have a smoke free home very prominent! Lastly, I love that you mention that you are a stork, but I’d love to see a clickable link to your me page with information on how to join HCTS! You are missing affiliate $$ with no link on your me page!!

Great job! I’m so happy to tell you that you are our first listing of the day, and that you will be entered to win a $10 GC this weekend! Our members will vote on the best listing of the week Fri-Sun, and the winner will be announced Monday.

Tell me a story, your story.

While we are waiting for the blog’s purpose to “officially” begin next Monday…tell me about YOU. How did you find yourself where you are now?

How did you get to where you are as a work at home woman? How did you get your ebay start? Most importantly…how did you find Here Comes The Stork?

I started selling on ebay in 1999. Ten years, sigh!  I had just quit selling Longaberger Baskets at the time. I had a LOT OF BASKETS and A LITTLE BIT OF MONEY. I eventually began selling them off. I charged ridiculous shipping fees. Who knows those stinkin’ baskets are so heavy? I would drag my two year old 15 minutes to the little country post office with all of those huge boxes. Most of the time we ended up arriving on their lunch break-in case you are unfamiliar, country post offices seem to close each day from like 10:15-2:53 for lunch. Sigh. Last night, that 2 year old got signed up for church youth group. Double sigh!

Then I joined a young mom’s group on AOL and discovered Gymboree.

I was hooked!! Shew! I started scouring consignment shops and stalking ebay to find more and more Gymbo!!  A few years passed of me hustling outgrown clothes, things casually bought for resale, etc…and then IT happened. I found the master of all Gymboree selling-Kendra, Miss HereComesTheStork on ebay, selling huge lots of Gymboree!! What, and she knew how to get it cheap enough to resell it?!?! I was intrigued!! But, hey-I’m way too smart to join a subscription website. Shheeessh. I’m not going to fall for that!! I would only join for ONE MONTH, get all the info she has to offer, and then cancel. Easy Peasy! Here I am, around 6 years later, still a member of HCTS!

After I joined HCTS, I became a POWERSELLER within 3 months, became a board moderator within 6 months.

I’ve been lucky to work with K here at HCTS and on a few projects over the years. I started a board of my own-Bodenboard.com (filled with awesome people, join us-we don’t bite!!). Now here I am, working as the admin of HCTS, trying to fill K’s incredible shoes here. I can barely believe those pain-in-the-behind to ship baskets started this chain reaction of events.

Where ever those baskets are today, I hope they are blessing whoever owns them as much as I was blessed by selling them.

Okay, now your turn. Use those comments to tell your story.

What’s most important?

I’m compiling a list of 20 things that I will use when I critique the listings that are selected for this blog next week.  I’m wondering-what’s most important to you when you are listing?

Some things are no-brainers, like proper category placement and keywords. But do you ever ask yourself, “Which is more important-good pictures or a well written description?”

What’s most important to you? When deciding that, are you approaching that question as a buyer or a seller? Comments, please.

Good morning ya’ll!

I have a stork accomplice on this post. Many of you know Jen -stork js1234 . She is the owner of Easy Auction Tracker, and she has offered a GREAT prize to get our blog started rolling. Read on to find out more…

  • Easy Auctions Tracker is the Ultimate Excel spreadsheet for eBay sellers and Trading Assistants! This spreadsheet doesn’t calculate your fees, it actually collects your transaction information from your account on eBay’s servers for you.
  • Easy Auctions Tracker is fully automated and has been tested & certified by eBay as a compatible application. The spreadsheet allows you to quickly collect and record your transactions (sold items and unsold items!) for the past 3 months/90 days without the need to manually enter the information.
  • With the simple click of a button, Easy Auctions Tracker is able to collect all the information for a entire month’s worth of sales from eBay’s servers for you. Look for the link where you can download a free trial!
  • The program uses an eBay token, and imports all the data to the spreadsheet. It is complete info including the item number (with link to listing), title, ending price, eBay fees, Paypal fees etc., but it also imports the buyer’s email address, the USPS tracking info (with link to the USPS or UPS site), and more!! No more spending hours entering the information in manually!
  • Trading Assistants-this will make your life so much easier! You can create customizable statements for your clients quickly and easily, potentially saving you HOURS of paperwork!
  • If you’re not an Excel guru (and most of us aren’t), technical support is available by e-mail or phone.
  • Overall, this is complete and will save you tons of time. And as we know, time is money! If you’ve been looking for an easy & FAST tool for eBay bookkeeping, this does the trick!

Now for the PRIZE part!! Jen has generously donated an Easy Auction Tracker Membership to one very lucky reader of the HCTS blog!! I think I am going to award the prize to the stork who posts the most comments on this blog by the end of May. Sound good? So help me get the HCTS blog rolling and potentially win a great prize!!
